Donna Doo's Big Adventure
I did it!! For details on the event, go to the "diary" page.
Love, Donna In January, I signed up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s TEAM IN TRAINING to participate in the King’s Trail Triathlon on June 13th, 2004! That’s right, a triathlon! A .9-mile swim, 25-mile bike ride, followed by a 6.2-mile run. I know what you’re thinking… the most running I do is chasing after Brooks & Bryce, but this is something I am determined to complete. As many of you know, I’ve been on the National Marrow Donor Program registry since I was a teenager. Leukemia had taken the life of Marc Dortch, a child I babysat, and the Marrow Registry felt like a good way to honor his memory. Although I have been called upon for further testing, so far I haven't been "the one." In June 1999, blood-related cancer, Lymphoma, took the life of my cousin, Randy Arnett. Only two years later, another cousin, Byron, lost his son, “Chip” Smith, to Leukemia. I wanted to do something, and TEAM IN TRAINING seemed like the perfect fit. TEAM IN TRAINING is the world’s largest physical endurance and fundraising program. With the help of mentors and professional athletic coaches, they take people like me – with a lot of desire but no experience – and transform us into athletes… TRI-athletes! Beginning in February, I will be training hard and raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Over 75% of your donation goes directly to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for research, patient services, advocacy and education! Your support, of The Society and of me personally, is greatly appreciated. NO DONATIONS ARE TOO GREAT OR TOO SMALL... every bit helps! If you are unable to contribute financially at this time, please keep me and the other TNT members in your prayers. Thanks in advance for your support! Donna PS -- Please sign the guestbook! And check back to see your name on the list of contributors! Thanks again for your support. |
